The 2026 Lunar Cycle Sketchbook Series
About the series
The Lunar Sketchbook Series is a year‑long project shaped by the rhythm of the moon. Across twelve lunar cycles, I’m creating twelve sketchbooks - each one beginning at the new moon, cresting at the full moon, and closing as the next new moon arrives.
It’s a circular practice: a way of drawing in orbit with the sky, moving through thresholds, and letting each cycle set its own emotional and material tone.
This series also connects with my ongoing fascination with circles - from orbital paths to the microscopic worlds inside my Petri latex images. Each sketchbook becomes another circular system to explore: a container, a portal, a world within a world.
Context Through Naming: Personalising the Cycles
Each lunar cycle in this series carries an expanded name, a pairing of the traditional full moon with an additional word or phrase. These added words act as a personal lens, giving each cycle its own emotional temperature and conceptual direction.
They anchor the sketchbooks in my ongoing research into circles, thresholds, and material atmospheres, offering a way to tune into the subtle shifts of the year.
These names aren’t labels so much as invitations: small portals into the mood, logic, and visual language of each lunar cycle.
Cycles Completed, Cycles Unfolding
Each sketchbook is dedicated to one lunation and its theme. Together, they form a slow progression through stillness, emergence, growth, depth, clarity, and winter illumination.
