Petri Latex
Petri Latex is a single creative day for young people aged 10 to 15, exploring how ink, chemistry and chance combine to create something that's never quite the same twice.
Real materials, a practising artist and educator, and a process that still surprises - even after years of running it. A shorter session than the Lab's other Activity Days, ideal for a first taste of YCL.
The next Petri Latex day runs at Lady Bay Scout Hall on Wednesday 21st October.
What happens in Petri Latex?
One Creative Session
Wednesday 21 October, 1-3.30pm, Lady Bay Scout Hall.
A 2.5-hour session shorter than the Lab's full Activity Days.
Chemistry, ink and chance
Petri dishes, ink and liquid latex — the latex starts opaque and dries clear, letting colours merge, shift and half-reveal themselves as they dry. Participants test, adjust and discover what the materials do, rather than aiming for a fixed result. All materials and chemicals used are chosen with the group's age in mind.
Something to take home
Everyone leaves with the dishes they've made — a small, physical record of an afternoon spent experimenting.

Paul Liptrot has been running Petri Latex workshops for years - from a Nottingham school to a shared creative space in New Delhi, exploring the same process each time with people discovering it for the first time.
